Detailed Conductive Elastomer Description
Conductive elastomer is a continuously extruded silicone elastomer filled
with silver - plated inert particles.
It is available in a variety of standard cross - sections: rectangular,
round, "D" shape, "U" channels, "P" shapes and various thin wall
constructions. It is a medium hardness material
providing high electrical conductivity and moisture sealing. Custom cross - sections are available per customer
specifications.
Applications:
a) Molded silver - filled silicone elastomer
Should be used where there is a need for high broadband shielding
combined with excellent moisture sealing properties. Conductive elastomer is designed to provide reliable
cost effective shielding and is especially ideal for a wide range of
commercial and telecommunications EMI applications. In order to
assure electrical conductivity and sealing reliability, recommended
design compression is 7% - 15% of original height for sheets and
rectangular strips, and 12% - 30% for "O" and "P" shapes.
b) Carno - filled silicone elastomer (UL 94V - 0 rating )
Provides excellent voltage handling capabilities for grounding, lower
current densities, and is ideal for static discharge and corona
applications. E - 48923S closure pressures. Various extruded shapes designed for groove - UL94 VO**and
flange mounting, such as tubes and P - shapes provide maximum deflection
at low to medium No.
The conductive elastomer also provides a good environmental seal under
moderate closing forces.
It meets the demanding requirements of many military and aerospace systems,
and as gaskets for wave - guides and connectors. Recommended design compression is 5% - 10% of
original height for sheets and rectangular strips, 15% - ohm 15 ohm 24
ohm20% for solid "O" and "D" shapes, and 20% - 30%
b) Silver - copper filled silicone elastomer
The conductive elastomer commercial grade compounds are cost effective
EMI shielding and grounding mate - rials suitable for many commercial applications.
In addition, the elastomer can also be used for EMP and TEMPEST
applications. Clo - sure forces will be lower for
custom tubes or P - shaped extrusions. Rec - ommended design compression is 6% at 100 - psi closure
force for rectangular cross sections. Aerospace applications de - mand fluorosilicone
because of its inherent resis - tance to jet fuels and its
ability to perform under extreme conditions.
